Dear Fellow Parishioners:

Fulfilling the promise of St. Barnabas: those words lift our thoughts and aspirations as we now consider our own stewardship in our church. Our mission statement declares that we are a body of Christians committed to respond to the serious challenges in the church and in the world. As we reflect on our fifty years as a mission and as a parish, we see the ever-improving structures of our house of worship, parish house, terraces and organ. We see our beloved Rector, Associate Rector, Music Director, extraordinary choir and dedicated staff. We also see our dedicated and growing congregation of devoted Christians - friends, neighbors, grandparents, grandchildren and all united in their fellowship and in their security in the love of God.

You are a part of this congregation and it is to you we now turn to ask for your continued stewardship of our church. As we hear every Sunday, “all things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee”.

Our stewardship objective for 2010 is $760,000, virtually the same as 2009. Our Vestry continues to do a careful and vigilant job both to control our expenses, and to make sure that our expenditures truly go to fulfill the promises of St. Barnabas. Our individual stewardship contributions must surely provide for this budgeted amount. We today are so fortunate that over these fifty years our predecessors have wisely and generously provided for our financial security. Now it is up to us, not only to provide for our church's necessities, but also to make possible the joy of outreach.

As you prayfully consider your own tithe, may your own joy as a communicant of St. Barnabas fill your heart. Remember the words of our Savior: “Come unto me all ye who travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you”.

We close with the thought that our generous participation in our stewardship program is not only right for our church and its mission on the earth; it is right for us as joyful laborers in the vineyard.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this request. It is meet and right so to do.

Very truly yours,

Jim Kinnear, Chair
Austin Pryor, John Townsend, Co-chairs
