Stewardship Season 2012-2013
Dear St. Barnabas Church parish family:
Here we are, our first stewardship season together! I have been involved as a lay person with three specific parishes over thirty plus years and numerous stewardship seasons. I have NEVER witnessed such a large number of people who have volunteered to be callers in a canvass as the magnificent squad here.
I would like to offer to the whole parish a Scripture based opportunity to focus ourselves during this important time of the year. There is a Budget Digest in this brochure. There is also a copy of a portion of 2 Corinthians 8:1-15 on the reverse side of your pledge cards. Please take a few minutes to read this passage which is an encouragement to be generous. Then prayerfully look at the Budget Digest and see how critically important your financial stewardship is in our budget picture.
You all excel in so many different ways in your lives. Imagine how excelling in financial support for St. Barnabas Church will allow us to become all the more eager about the great faith journey that we are on.
We will, with God’s help, The Rev. Ted Pardoe
HOW MUCH SHOULD I BE GIVING
A healthy spiritual life requires discipline. Without a schedule, our commitments are consumed by life’s demands. It is the same with pledging…. the discipline through which we give of our income, to God, by supporting St. Barnabas. We all respond to the demands on our resources, colleges, charities, kin. Among the blessings allowing our Congregation’s generosity, is that so many were born with the blessings of drive, intelligence, perseverance, allowing them to be amazingly generous. There is one source of these blessings, and it is to this source that we give thanks. Let us never forget the source of our gifts. Let’s put St. Barnabas at the top of our list,.
We are a small church with large church expectations. We expect the noblest characteristics in our Rector, Associate Rector, Music Director. Think of the expense of salaries, our commitment to outreach, administrative/office expenses, utilities, building maintenance, etc.
Let’s seek His help as we consider how we can give back to Him, our individual share, in a way representing a reasonable portion of what He has given us. Giving to St. Barnabas is an honor and pleasure. We need the discipline of seeking the advice of our Lord as we consider how we can recognize all our amazing blessings.
The Bible recommends the tithe (10% of one's income) as a standard of giving. If the tithe seems too high a mark to reach this year, think percentages anyway. Choose a percentage that feels faithful, grateful and generous.
