About Us
Our Mission
St. Barnabas is an active, growing community that provides nurture, support, and guidance to enable all its members to deepen their faith and to carry out Christ’s work in the world.

Our Vision
St. Barnabas aspires to be:

•
An Episcopal fellowship that invites all people to experience through worship the joy and wonder of God’s kingdom.
A serene and holy space in which one can encounter the living God.
A lively community marked by the lilt of laughter, the voices of children, and a magnetic energy which beckons others to become involved.
A caring family whose gentle touch and unhurried attention nurture the building of supportive relationships.
A body of Christians committed to respond to the serious challenges in the church and in the world.

Founded in the 1950s, St. Barnabas has been an independent parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut since 1967. The present church structure was designed by noted Greenwich resident and architect Philip Ives and constructed in 1958. Today St. Barnabas is a thriving congregation that serves the greater Greenwich area. Our Sunday liturgy is the heart of our spiritual life as we gather as a community for worship, for learning, and for fellowship. Through a wide variety of outreach programs we share our faith and our resources by making a difference in our community, our state, and the world.

Our worship is expressed through the 1979 Book of Common Prayer using both Rite I and Rite II. In all of the services of worship the Prayer Book content provides a balanced expression of praise, penitence, petition, intercession, and especially thanksgiving—all informed by Holy Scripture as Biblical selections from the lectionary conform to the seasons of the Church Year.

Some highlights of life at St. Barnabas

Church School: Christian formation for children meets them where they are and nurtures their growth in faith with caring teachers and opportunities to explore the Bible and life in the world as faithful Christians Our ministry for the teens of the parish and their friends is grounded in service within the parish through being acolytes and church school teachers, and service in the world through ministry to those who are homeless and under served in Greenwich and New York City..

Mission/Outreach opportunities offer financial support deeply valued by ministries in our local community and the world. We emphasize hands-on ministry where we give our time and our energy to build and repair houses, to feed the homeless, to learn and grow in mutuality with others in ministry.

Our Music Program: The St. Barnabas Choir, one of the finest in the tri-state area, and Children's Choir offer people of all ages the chance to lift their voices in praise of God. Michael Roush leads the adult choir to bring finely crafted music into our worship which enhances our understanding of Holy Scripture. The Music Guild sponsors a series of concerts bringing artists and groups from across the nation to St. Barnabas. Concerts of major works are also performed by our own choir.

Fellowship: We are a friendly group of people who care about each other. We catch up with each other at Coffee Hour following the 10:00 a.m. service and enjoy each other's company at parties, picnics, and outings. We come out in force for Mission/Outreach projects. Newcomers appreciate the many gifts that a smaller parish community bring.

Adult Education and Formation: Many gather following the 10:00a.m. service for Adult Forums that range from book studies to presentations on our outreach/mission projects, to learning more about the Episcopal Church and worship as well as Bible Studies and gatherings during the week that often begin with supper.
